This morning I woke up to no internet. It stinks to be totally reliant on something - but alas, the internet is very much my day job and a big part of my life so life without it is liberating, but challenging.
After leaving a note for our landlord about the internet's choice to take the day off, I packed up the office and settled into my favorite local coffee shop - a perfect americano beside me, the CBC playing overhead and the regulars streaming in and out collecting their coffees for the commute to work.
I ordered another americano.
Once the traffic of commuters settled, the morning crowd with kids started to wander in - consuming the freshly baked croissants and chatting about day care options as their kids dropped crumbs on the benches and listed to the echo of their shrieks off the beautiful tin ceiling. Their shrieks were eventually quieted by the constant hum and rumble of construction outside as the workers all watched their one colleague dig a hole or saw through metal pipes.
I could have stayed their all day if my coffee buzz was not quite so high and my computer battery running low. Once I settled back at home I was shocked to see just how much work I had achieved at my coffee shop office. It was as though my eyes and ears were people watching while my brain just got to work! This has me considering taking my office on the road more often - but if I plan on making a day of it, I think I will have to switch to tea as I am pretty sure it will take me to dinner to lose this americano high.
