Neighbourhood Watch

>> 15.4.10

Aside from bulbs bursting out of the ground, teens in sandles and t-shirts (despite the temps just breaking zero degrees) and patios bursting full of people quenching a thirst built up from hibernating all winter, a sure fire way to know spring is here over at our house is the change in behavior of our dear cat Maude.
It is as if Maude awoke at the first inkling of mother nature flipping the spring switch, turning back on all of her cat senses and behaviors. Running, stalking, whining, jumping, sleeeeeeping...we all of a sudden have a full fledged cat on our hands!

When not mastering the above behaviors, she spends her days at the back window (something that also seemed to disappear in her mind during winter) stalking all of the backyard visitors and acting as the neighbourhood watch. She ducks when birds fly close, cowers when a squirrel is too aggressive and jumps around, her tail her mood ring when other cats come by for a visit.

We are still working on teaching her to let us know if someone comes for a visit to check out and "borrow" our things (I am sure whoever took our BBQ last season is going to drop it off any day now...) but for now, she has mastered watching the comings and goings of our little backyard community... that is, when she is not asleep on the job!
