Decorating Salads

>> 15.3.09

In a recent moment of clearly not having enough to do, I decided that there was a significant lacking of fresh baked treats in our home.

I have visions of a great vintage cookie jar on our kitchen table always stuffed full of fresh cookies and bars.
People will stroll into our home off the street, high off the smell of fresh baking, which I will serve to them with a glass of cold almond milk. Perfection.

Unfortunately, so far, the only step I have taken towards achieving this dream is buying items to decorate and shape these treat with.

Last weekend I found this great old "Deluxe Combination - Cookie Maker and Cake Decorator."
Not only is it great for decorating sweet treats, much of the box is dedicated to recipes for "Liver Spread"and "Zippy Cheese Spread" which are said to be perfect for garnishing "salads, Planked Steaks and Fish" - yum!

And for "Informal Entertaining", they suggest:
fill Cake Decorator with one of the following mixtures (liver spread, etc.) and let guests "decorate" their own crackers or chips

Fortunately for my future dinner guests, we do not eat meat so the liver spread is out, but I do think a great cucumber jellied salad with some zippy cheese florettes pipped on top is just what our first spring bbq calls for!
